Recorded in 1994 for an MTV UNPLUGGED session, this live-in-studio set features Bjork performing nearly every song from DEBUT, backed by an eclectic cast of musicians that includes her frequent collaborator Guy Sigsworth, percussionist Talvin Singh, harpist Corky Lake, and jazz luminaries Oliver Lake and Julius Hemphill. Although the Icelandic singer keeps the structures of her songs largely intact, these acoustic performances, which incorporate instruments such as the gamelan and tabla, bring out completely different aspects of the tunes. These re-workings allow Bjork's utterly unique voice to masterfully guide the songs, whether emphatically emoting over the surprisingly spare backing of "Big Time Sensuality" or softly swooning on the harp-laden "Like Someone in Love." The result is an excellent companion piece to DEBUT and a must for Bjork fans.
